Googling for adverts

Estimated ranking of spend by advertisers on media for 2006:

  1. ITV 
  2. Google 
  3. Channel 4

And according to The Times, Google are on track to overtake ITV by 2008.

The fact that this is coming from the Chief Executive of Channel 4, which is hardly a disinterested party, doesn’t make this picture wrong, though the conclusions he draws are unsurprisingly defensive.  But from our point of view, it’s a reminder of the challenge from Directionlessgov – how close might we be to losing control of our own navigation?  And would it really matter if we did?
